Singheshwar Sthan, Madhepura (Bihar)


Singheshwar Sthan is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Madhepura district. The divine Shivling here is considered a symbol of immense faith and devotion of the people. It is said that this place was once the Tapabhoomi of the great Shringi Rishi. Here he had built 7 Havan Kunds for Yagya, which are still seen in the form of Khandar. Due to the residence of Shringi Rishi, this place became famous as Singheshwar Sthan.

Singheshwar Sthan is located at a distance of eight kilometres from Dauram Madhepura (North Eastern Railway), which is the headquarters of the block of the same name. This village, located about 7 kilometres north, is famous for an ancient Shiva temple. According to legend, Shringa Rishi established the Shivling in the Singheshwar Sthan temple. It was Shringa Rishi who performed Putrayeshti Yagya for King Dasharath and later he got four sons. The effect of this legend is seen in the large number of infertile women who come here regularly to worship. On the occasion of 'Shivratri', a month-long fair is held which is one of the biggest fairs in the state.

The splendour of Singheshwar Sthan is worth seeing on the day of Mahashivratri. The cattle fair here is quite famous. Even on normal days, a huge crowd of devotees is seen here. This temple is a symbol of immense devotion and emotion and everyone must visit here once.

How do I get there?

To reach Singheshwar Temple, you will easily get buses and autos at Dauram Madhepura Railway Station. According to your choice or budget, you can take a reserved auto or share it with other passengers. Apart from the railway station, buses or autos can be found from different places in the city like Old Bus Stand, New Bus Stand, Karpuri Chowk, College Chowk and University South Campus.

Madhepura is well connected with the other parts of the country by roads and trains.

Roadways: Frequent buses are available from the main roadways bus stand to all major cities However to move to the internal part of Madhepura district, a few more bus stands are there mainly Murliganj bus stand, Gamhariya stand, Singheshwar bus stand which attract good traffic.

The nearest Airport city is Darbhanga (110-150km) and Patna (200km).
